I purchased this for a friend who flies remote control airplanes, I figured this would make a great birthday gift, well guess what? when he tried to turn it on the battery was DEAD. I read about others that purchased this item and found the battery was also dead. I can not comment on how it works just yet......I HAVE TO GO AND BUY A BATTERY FOR IT! Rating:  - Nice unit for the price!I was looking around for a hand-held anemometer for determining wind speed for flying remote control aircraft. I looked at several sites and products and they were all upwards of $100. I found this unit on Amazon for a very good price and we have been happy with it so far. Rating: - Great WindmeterBought this for my sailboat and it works really well, unfortunately the one i got had a dead battery in it and wasnt easy to find a replacement. However it works great, has an adjustable lanyard so you can wear it without losing it. Very light and compact, fits in a shirt pocket. Rating: - SLOOOW responseFirst unit delivered had a defective display. The second unit worked. This unit has a 'chill factor' feature. The temperature display responds so slowly it takes at least 30 minutes for the reading to settle from a inside to an outside temperature. (Hope you can stand the cold waiting.) The company did not respond to help line phone calls and 'didn't call back', or respond to any emails. The only way I got a response was to write to the president of the company. I got a response, but 'that's just the way it works' is the response. Please don't purchase from LaCrosse. Rating:  - Be Careful When Amazon Is The Seller!Fine little anemometer. I have two thanks to Amazon. Have had good results when shopping from Amazon listed sellers...BUT, be careful when buying directly from Amazon. The first anemometer had a dead battery, a $5 item. So I CALLED Amazon. This is hard enough to do; Amazon's web pages say there is a phone number but I never found it. I went to a site that complained about Amazon to locate the phone number. Amazon's representative said a replacement battery could not be provided although he knew the batteries price. I could return the unit. I bought it because I wanted to use it, so I bought a battery. Amazon was to credit my account with the $5 which eventually they did. Then I received a second Anemometer with an invoice showing a cost of $0. I actually thought Amazon was correcting their original mistake in a very generous manner...WRONG! Silly me, I was eventually billed for a second anemometer. Amazon's emails do not address the problem. Apparently I'm to be inconvienced by their mistakes without any consideration. I'll still shop Amazon sellers, BUT, I WILL NOT BUY ANYTHING ELSE WHEN AMAZON IS THE SELLER. They have no idea of customer service.
