Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Easy to use, tidy and full featured
I got one of these yesterday and my initial impression is very positive.

I dual-boot Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.10. On opening the package I plugged it into the USB port and it showed up as a removable drive in Ubuntu without me needing to install or run anything. I was able to drag and drop some mp3s and audiobooks and everything worked perfectly. I tried it in Windows later on and it worked perfectly there too. One small issue I noticed is that for someone like me who'll probably be using it with different operating systems you'll probably need to change the USB settings from autodetect to MSC. It defaults to MTP in windows, and for some reason when using MTP it can't see any files present that were added with MSC and vice versa.

It comes with a little black sleeve to protect it - the material seems like cell phone plastic on the face and more rubbery on the back so it might get scuffed otherwise. The headphones seem pretty good and are very comfortable.

Battery life seems to be good. I had it fully charged this morning and left it playing mp3s constantly all day. It's now about 14 hours later, and it looks like there's about a quarter left on the battery meter.

It comes with a CD, but it's one of those mini sized ones and my slot loading drive can't use it. Whatever is on it, it works just great without it, and updating the firmware from the sandisk website was quite straightforward.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice litter player
I bought this player after reading raving reviews, and I'm pretty happy with it in general.

Although it is rather personal, the color is not that great. Unlike the silver color you see in photos, it is more grey than silver.

Sound quality is pretty good when I used 320 kbps mp3 files and Grado SR60, Koss Portapro, etc. quality headphones. Sennheiser HD555 did not work very well with this, but it did not work well with computers either unless it is driven by an amplifier (see my review on headphones). The Fuze I got had some problem in earphone connector, it made clicking sounds with some headphones/cables. I could get rid of the sound by adjusting the insertion a little bit, but it was annoying. I had it exchanged by Sandisk for free, and the new one works like a charm. I believe the problem got resolved with later production lots.

I did not try other features on it, since I'm only interested in music player feature itself. German, Japanese and Chinese titles of the songs displayed correctly on the screen, this may be important to some of the users.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Beware. This player NOT for video
I bought this player specifically to play my favorite episodes of my favorite tv series. I have purchased legal copies of Supernatural, but the Sansa Fuze will not let me transfer them, since they carry the DRM codes. The media converter will not accept those codes and Sansa has no plans to ever make legally purchased videos accessible for this player.

If you want to play pirated videos, the Fuze may be your thing. But if you want to be legal, go with a more enlightened company.

As far as ease of use and music playing, I have no complaints. However it angers me that I can't use this for the purpose I bought it for. I could have bought a much cheaper player--or lived with what I had--if all I wanted was music.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I POD DOES NOT GET MY NOD !
I POD DOES NOT GET MY NOD.........

I work at a consumer electronic store. In order to sell the products I have to use them and know about them. Could not wait to get my hands on the New I pod Nano. Found it difficult to work with. Downloading and transferring pictures was a chore. If you go 8 gigs that what you stay with. No place for additional storage. My next mp3 player was the new Sansa Fuze. It is easier to download and transfer pictures. The storage is expandable. A 8 gig can become a 12 gig and not break the bank. Hook it up to my Bose Wave and my car. It worked very well. I love playing with the equalizer. I think the world is just I POD crazy. Before you buy just stop a minute and see if there is an alternative to Apple Products. My opinion, Yes There Is.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sansa Fuze 8 GB MP3
Excellent product. Most bang for the buck of other MP3 players I have tried. Purchased through Amazon from Electronic Expo. They were great providing emails and updates on tracking package.
I would buy this player again for family or friends.
