Rating: - absolute garbagei wish i could give this a 0 star rating but sadly i can not. for those who said it is a revisit to the great albums like master of puppets, and justice for all, and ride the lightning they are horribly wrong. there are small splashes of brilliance but sadly it underperformed. they continue to make new version of old songs which is sad. they are just not sure who they are and are not making great metal and have not done that since the early 1990's. on the plus side james still has a great voice. also the drums sound quite choice. which is a contrast from that st. anger travesty. sadly the mighty met has fallen to a new low. if you want good metal look to europe. they are making great heavy metal, progressive rock, black metal. you know stuff that has the anger that the met once had but now they are old and mellow. Rating: - Good to have them backI will make it short, you can read the detail many others have posted on this album. I grew up on Metallica, the ...And Justice For All tour was my first concert. I have went to at least 5 of their concerts and have all their albums. And though Load & Reload are not very good Metallica-wise, I actually did like St. Anger though I can not listen to it often. So I, like many others did get sick of the kinder gentler version of Metallica, though I do listen to the lesser albums from time to time (again Load & Reload). But this album.... boy oh boy! It is like seeing that good buddy you hung out with for years, and then you just seem to drift apart by lives path, and then one day you meet up again by chance and start hanging out, and the time apart is forgotten, it is like you never drifted apart. That old familiar friend is back. Metallica is back folks. Some are going to gripe about this or that, but do not let them kid you, this album rocks. Is it Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets? No, those days are gone forever, but it is close, it is Metallica.... again. Rating: - Kirk Saves The Day.This is definitely the album that Metallica should have released after And Justice For All. It's no Master of Puppets, and really nothing like Metallica's first two, but it beats all hell out of the Load albums, and also St. Anger. If I could find one thing that I thought could have ruined this album, it was Hetfield's vocals. Come on, lets all be honest: his vocals on this sound exactly like they did on the Load albums. There's no real attitude that bursts forth like Puppets or on Justice. But what saved this album from being classified along with the last three, was the killer riffs and solos of Kirk Hammett. Take him out of the mix and I think Metallica would really be done. His playing on this sounded like he wanted to be a lot heavier than what he was allowed to be on previous releases. Lars sounds good, his drumming sounding more fresh and more in line with what he did on Justice. Standout tracks that will make you bang your head like the old days are, All Nightmare Long, Cyanide, and My Apocalypse. The instrumental on here, Suicide & Redemption, is pretty good, sounding like part of a soundtrack to an action or horror movie. Death Magnetic is a step back in the right direction, but it's no Master of Puppets II. Rating: - Metallica is back in a big way! It's funny, considering just how in awe of Metallica I was in the early 90's, that the release of their latest album - Death Magnetic - could come and go almost unnoticed. Apparently 15 years of mediocre to just plain awful albums had so thoroughly killed my interest in the band that I honestly didn't care enough about Metallica to give their new album a second glance. Then one day, while browsing in a used CD store, I heard these neck-snapping metal riffs come blasting from the store speakers and I started to drift to the counter to try and surreptitiously find out what was playing (for some reason, asking the clerk what's on always makes me feel like a rube). Then I heard James Hetfield's unmistakable vocals kick in and said to myself "Oh, you've got to be kidding!" The album of course was Death Magnetic and I can count on one hand the number of times since then that it has left my car CD player. Death Magnetic is the album Metallica should have released in 1995 to follow up the best-selling "black album". Both albums have the same monster sound that is one step removed from the band's thrash metal roots but still heavy as hell. Both albums have the same crossover potential that made Metallica a household word today instead of just another forgotten Bay Area thrash act. Both albums have some mammoth and unforgettable hard rock songs ("The End of the Line" and "Broken, Beat & Scarred" are my current favorites). There are even guitar solos! Unlike the last album, Kirk Hammett unleashed some blistering solos on this one. The album drags a bit with "The Unforgiven III" (time to let that theme die), but picks right back up again with the blistering "The Judas Kiss". Death Magnetic is so freaking good that by the time the album ends you're willing to forgive (or at least forget) that Load, Reload, and St. Anger ever happened. I couldn't believe my ears the first time I heard it, and am still amazed at just how much I am loving Death Magnetic. If you told me a year ago that I'd be raving about a new Metallica album, I wouldn't have believed it. Oh, and I honestly can't hear whatever audio/mastering/mixing defects that have so many people up in arms. I'm not an audiophile by any means, and Death Magnetic sounds great to me. I'm tempted to give Death Magnetic a full 5-star rating because honestly it's just that good, but since it's not at the same level as Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning or And Justice For All, the best I can do here is 4-stars. The band certainly outdid themselves this time, and bought - as far as this fan is concerned - a measure of redemption along the way. Rating: - it's about timejust by the Amazon samples alone, it appears that my once beloved metal band is finally back. It only took 20 years. Fiendishly "dirty" guitars sound hellish and new. this one picks up where ...And Justice for All left off. Finally! Death Magnetic ReviewsMore reviews:Buy Death Magnetic Sale Reviews Deals
